Beach Wedding at The Oberoi Resort, Lombok
When Wai Kwan and Evan began planning their destination wedding at The Oberoi Resort in Lombok, they already knew they wanted to return to the place where their story had reached a turning point. The couple first visited the resort in Indonesia during a holiday, when Evan proposed while they were snorkeling just off the resort’s private beach. The moment was unexpected and unforgettable, and when they began searching for a wedding venue a year later, nowhere else felt right.

The tropical venue offered everything they envisioned, serene natural beauty, impeccable service, and the intimate atmosphere of a five-star retreat. Tucked along a quiet stretch of golden sand and surrounded by tropical gardens, the resort overlooks Bali’s famous Mount Agung and provides an extraordinary sense of privacy and peace.
For Wai Kwan and Evan, planning a wedding at Oberoi Resort meant creating a celebration that felt like a continuation of their proposal, which was relaxed, joyful, and deeply connected to nature. They especially loved the resort’s unique “buyout” option which allowed them to host all 90 of their guests on-site, turning the wedding into a full three-day experience. The couple described the staff as “genuine and warm,” noting that every request, from sourcing local flowers to designing a menu inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine was met with enthusiasm and care.
Getting Ready at the Oberoi Resort
On the afternoon of the big day, a flurry of excitement and soft laughter could be heard as the couple and their closest friends prepared for the day ahead. In the elegant suites of The Oberoi Resort, sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating the scene and the silken shimmer of Wai Kwan’s gown. While the bride slipped into her dress surrounded by her bridesmaids, the groom and his friends shared easy banter over coffee and cufflinks. Every moment, beautifully captured by their photographer Sylvain Bouzat, revealed the anticipation and intimacy that came before the vows.

A Sunset Ceremony by the Sea
As the late afternoon light began to soften, guests made their way toward the beach, where a large tree framed the ceremony space with its sweeping branches. The ocean shimmered gold, the sand felt warm beneath their feet, and the sound of gentle waves mingled with the soft notes of music. The décor reflected the couple’s wish to keep things natural and refined, local palms and tropical greenery paired with bright splashes of red, pink, and orange flowers chosen from nearby markets.
The aisle was lined with woven chairs and simple floral clusters that caught the light as the bride approached. Wearing a gown she designed herself, Wai Kwan looked radiant in flowing silk with a Chinese-inspired choker neckline and an open back adorned by a delicate jeweled chain. Her dress looked graceful in the wind, and was a perfect match for the tropical setting.
Standing beneath the tree, Evan waited in a tailored P. Johnson suit of soft blue-grey, surrounded by his groomsmen in coordinating tones. The ceremony began as the sun dipped toward the horizon, casting long golden reflections across the sea.
When Wai Kwan began her vows, the crowd fell silent. Her words were tender and true: she spoke about how she had once believed marriage was unnecessary until she met Evan “and everything changed.” She promised to stand by him through every adventure, “to hold your hand when you disappear too far into work, and to whisk you away on long tropical holidays.” There was laughter, there were tears, and there was an unmistakable sense that this union was built on deep friendship as well as love.
From behind his lens, Sylvain Bouzat captured every nuance; the tearful smiles, the movement of the palms in the wind, the fleeting glances between the couple as they exchanged their rings from Fredric March Jewellers. His ability to frame emotion against the beauty of the natural landscape gave the ceremony a timeless quality.
As the sun slipped below the horizon, the newlyweds shared their first kiss, surrounded by family and friends cheering against a sky streaked with orange and rose. It was a moment of pure calm and connection, which was the essence of their beautiful wedding at Oberoi Resort.

Dinner Under the Stars
As twilight deepened over Lombok, the beach transformed into a warm, glowing dining space. Long tables were arranged beneath strings of lights and surrounded by flickering lanterns. The floral palette of coral, rose, and tropical orange brought the landscape to life, blending seamlessly with the natural greens of the palms.
The couple wanted their guests to experience the best of Southeast Asian cuisine, and the Oberoi team delivered an unforgettable feast. Food stations offered a rich variety of dishes from across the region including Japanese gyozas and ramen, Vietnamese-style beef salad, Indonesian curries, Cantonese rice, and a fragrant Pad Thai that had everyone lining up for seconds. It was a celebration not only of their marriage but of their shared love for travel, flavor, and adventure.
The wedding cake, simple and modern in white with a glassy sheen, was adorned with tropical blooms and served on a palm leaf, a subtle nod to the couple’s respect for local materials and design. As the evening went on, heartfelt speeches filled the air, each one drawing laughter and tears in equal measure. When the music began, the energy shifted; the dance floor came alive and stayed that way until late into the night.
It was, as the guests later described, an epic celebration that felt luxurious yet effortless, perfectly capturing the spirit of a destination wedding at Oberoi Resort.
