Way Up North started in Sweden in 2015 as an event for wedding photographers. It now runs twice a year, in spring and fall, moving to a new European city each time. Past hosts include Stockholm, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Prague, Lisbon, Florence, Copenhagen, Cannes, and Cologne.

The format is one theatre, one schedule. Presenters speak to a shared theme. What's unusual is when tickets are bought: often before the location is announced, sometimes with only a date attached. The community trusts the format. Over a decade in, that trust is what Way Up North is.
