Paparazzi Style Wedding Photography

New trends in wedding photography are always exciting to see and right now the one we are obsessed with is paparazzi style. Inspired by the candid and unposed shots taken by paparazzi photographers of celebrities, the look is a throwback to the direct on-camera flash photography that began in the 50’s and 60’s when tabloids were plentiful and popular. Decidedly edgy and chic, with intense contrast and graphic lines it appeals to an urban sensibility and feels like the photographer captured their subject on the fly with little preparation. The paparazzi look is often achieved on film which is also making a big comeback with wedding photographers.

Highlights of the paparazzi style of photography also include moments that unfold naturally, without any posing or staging. Similar to a documentary style of shooting, here the wedding photographer blends into the background, but in this case they may use telephotos lens to capture these intimate moments from a distance.

Signature looks include black and white photos—after all, who doesn’t love the timeless, elegant look of a rich black and white photograph? And paparazzi style is especially effective when capturing candid, “hidden” moments that evoke feelings of superstars ducking into alleyways or waiting limos to avoid the spotlight. We also love the wide angle shots and natural lighting this style thrives on.
