Indian Wedding at The Eden Project

Ruta and Sabeeh's wedding at The Eden Project in Cornwall, England blended traditional Indian wedding elements including saturated colors, beautiful henna and sacred ritual, with the new. Choosing this unique and modern venue, a Cornwall-based eco attraction built in a series of bubble-like biomes, they filled the space with family and friends and the lively beat of traditional Indian music and dance.

“I had no shortage of moments to capture,” says Cambridge wedding photographer Ben Minnaar, “from the bridal Mehndi and the explosion of colors of the guests’ clothing to both candid and intimate images of the happy couple against the distinctive architecture of The Eden Project”

Minnaar faced just a few challenges that were easily overcome, but one of the most significant ones, he admits, was the sheer number of guests in attendance. “It was sometimes a struggle to find a clear vantage point to get the perfect shot, but fortunately, The Eden Project allowed me both fantastic high and low vantage points that enabled me to shoot from several different and creative angles.”

The photographer also had to make sure not to take the bride and groom away for too long. “It can feel a little overwhelming, being in such a vast space as this was, to not lose track of time with so many amazing photo ops within the distinctive architecture,” he explains. “But I was able to prioritize the most critical moments of the wedding day to capture all the necessary photos within the most beautiful light that the day had to offer.”

As a Cambridge, UK wedding photographer, Minnaar’s go-to approach is to capture the genuine moments and emotions of the day in a reportage style that is natural and unobtrusive. “This means capturing the joy and happiness on the faces of the guests, the love and affection between the couple, and the little details that make the day unique,” he says. “I like to use as much natural light as possible and pay close attention to composition and framing. Whether it's a smile, a tear, or a candid moment between friends, it's the genuine moments that truly make a wedding special, I love to capture as many of them as possible. Ruta and Sabeeh's wedding at The Eden Project fit perfectly with my work and I loved every minute of it".
